NOAA Weather Radio Programming

Posted: Updated:

CHATHAM- WAND, Chatham Emergency Management Agency, National Weather Service Lincoln and Walgreens hosted a free NOAA Weather radio programming at the Walgreens in Chatham on Wednesday.

Chatham EMA Director Matt Bryan says this is a good opportunity to help the community prepare for severe weather. Licensed daycare providers in Chatham, who came to the event, received a free weather radio. People were also able to sign up for a drawing for three free weather radios.

Warning Coordination Meteorologist Chris Miller from the National Weather Service Lincoln office stressed the importance of a weather radio as the first line of defense against severe weather. Miller says this is a direct line to the National Weather Service. NOAA weather radios provide weather information around the clock. Miller also stressed the importance of weather radios during overnight events. "You could be asleep at 2 AM and the weather radio will go off and wake you up." "This will allow you and your family time to move to safety."

WAND is once again partnering with Midland Radio Corporation, Walgreens and Schnucks stores, providing weather radios at a discounted price. Chief Meteorologist JC Fultz says if you missed today's event don't worry. JC will be at the Taylorville Walgreens on Thursday, March 10th from 3:30 PM until 6:30 PM. More locations will be announced soon. Stay tuned to to find out locations and times.

The NOAA weather radio promotion is part of WAND's Weather Ready Central Illinois campaign sponsored by Hogan Grain and Equipment.
