UIS receives $1.5 million donation for new student union

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - University of Illinois - Springfield officials say they have received a $1.5 million donation in support of the student union building.

The donation was made by Richard and Charlene Osborne.  Richard Osborne is a UIS alumnus, earning his MBA from the university in 1973.  University Chancellor Susan Koch says the donation "demonstrates their (the Osbornes) generous spirit and strong confidence in UIS."

Officials say the new student union will provide a focal point for campus life, with the largest lounge being named the "Osborne Lounge."  The union will also feature a coffee shop, ballroom, Student Leadership Center, dining services, volunteer offices, and work spaces for student organizations.
