Champaign man sentenced to 75 years for April 2015 murder

CHAMPAIGN - A 28-year-old Champaign man will spend the next 75 years in prison after being convicted of an April 2015 murder.

Authorities say David Beverly, 28, received a 75-year prison sentence for the murder of 27-year-old Arsenio Carter.  Prosecutors say Carter was riding in a car driven by his girlfriend, Dreshana Caston, on April 10, 2015 when Beverly allegedly approached the vehicle and shot Carter in the chest through the window.

Police say Caston reported that Beverly was wearing a blue surgical glove at the time of the shooting.  Beverly was located by officers shortly after, and was arrested.  Authorities say Beverly was in possession of a pair of latex gloves at the time of his arrest.

Beverly was found guilty by a Champaign County jury on January 28, 2016.  Officials say he has 15 prior convictions in three states, and that he will not be eligible for good time credit.
