EDWARDSVILLE – People lined up early this morning to see Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at Southern Illinois University’s Edwardsville campus.

He appeared at the Vadalabene Center, the campus’ 4,000 capacity arena.

Sanders spoke about a number of issues, including making public colleges and universities tuition-free and combating climate change. Polls show Sanders trailing Hillary Clinton in Illinois, but some at the event said they expected the lead to be cut in half by the March 15 primary election.

Sanders trails Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in the delegate count (1058 – 431); however, he won Super Tuesday primaries in Minnesota, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Vermont.

The website Real Clear Politics has a collection of the latest polls and results, including hypothetical head-to-head matches pitting each front-running candidate from the Republican Party against the remaining Democrats.
