Carle NICU installs webcams for families

Posted: Updated:

URBANA - Carle Foundation Hospital officials say donations from community and corporate leaders will allow families to feel like they're in the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit when they are away from the building.

Officials say Carle is the first hospital in Illinois to install the NicView webcam system, which is designed to help families view their children through smartphones, tablets, and other technology.

According to Carle NICU Nurse Supervisor Theresa Green, RN, BSN, families have provided "a lot of positive feedback" regarding the cameras, which were installed and have been active for about a week.

The majority of money raised for this project was provided through the Carle Golf Open, with The Core, a group of community leaders who serve as Carle advocates, providing the remaining funding.
