MATTOON - The Mattoon Police Department says one man was arrested twice in the same day on two separate charges of theft.

Mattoon police say James Broomfield, 18, was arrested on March 3 at 2:37 p.m. at 10th Street and Broadway.  Authorities say Broomfield allegedly stole and used a credit card that belonged to another person.  Broomfield was issued a notice to appear in court, and was then released.

However, Mattoon police say Broomfield was arrested once again at about 7:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Broadway Avenue.  Officers say Broomfield allegedly stole merchandise from the Moto-Mart store in the 500 block of South 21st Street.

Broomfield was then taken to Coles County Jail, where he faces preliminary charges of theft and retail theft.  For more information on arrests made in central Illinois, check out our Crime Tracker Mugshots.
