Missing radioactive device found by farmer

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - In an update to a story WAND brought to you this week, a radioactive well logging source holder that was reported missing in October has been found.

Illinois Emergency Management Agency officials say the device, reported missing by Wayne County Well Surveys last October, was found in a field by a local farmer.  The device was taken to Wayne County Well Surveys, and an IEMA staff member was sent to confirm the identity and condition of the device.

IEMA officials say the device was reported to be in good condition, and did not pose a threat to the public while it was missing.  The investigation into how the device went missing will continue.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
