Colleagues Respond to Death of Jacksonville Police Officer

JACKSONVILLE-Officer Scot Fitzgerald's death in the line of duty has brought a new meaning to hero.

Friday evening, the officer was responding to an emergency medical call when he was struck on the drivers side while make a U-turn b the ambulance following him.

He leaves behind a wife and 2 young children. The news has caused the town of Jacksonville to reflect on the man Fitzgerald was.

According to Illinois Fraternal Organization of Police Lodge 125 David Blanchette said, "Officer Fitzgerald was an outstanding member of the community he had a record to the community in numerous ways he was a police officer, emergency responder, and upstanding family man and he is going to be sorely missed. He is the example of what a police officer should be and often is."

Services are slated for Wednesday. A press conference for the media will occur Monday at 10:00 A.M. Stay with WAND news for more information.
