Iditarod Race is Underway

WILLOW, ALASKA - The world famous Iditarod dog sled race kicked-off, Sunday. 85 teams took off in a staggered start on the nearly 1,000-mile race, to Nome.

The event is going on despite a lack of snow in Anchorage this season. Snow had to be shipped in from Fairbanks, this week.

Seven former champions are among those competing in the race, trekking over the tough Alaskan terrain.

The 2016 winner is expected to cross the finish line, in about nine days.
