Decatur – Hot dog! Sonic will be serving food in Decatur starting this summer.
Gary Haines, owner of 15 Subway restaurants, tells WAND’s Doug Wolfe he will soon begin construction of a Sonic next to Culver’s near the Decatur airport. Haines hopes to have the Sonic open by early June.
Sonic serves hot dogs, hamburgers, tater tots, shakes, drinks and hand dipped onion rings. The onion rings are made fresh daily.
Haines says he plans on hiring 150 people. 40 of those employees will be full time. There are management positions also available that pay above minimum wage. People can start applying for jobs soon by going to the Decatur Sonic Facebook page.
The Decatur Sonic will have two drive-in lanes and car hops to bring food out to cars. This particular Sonic location will also have indoor seating. Groundbreaking for the Sonic is scheduled for Wednesday at 10am. Haines says if this Sonic location is successful he may open a second Sonic in a north side location.
