Governor Rauner lashes out at House Democrats

Posted:

SPRINGFIELD – Governor Bruce Rauner called an impromptu news conference today to admonish House Democrats for going home while Illinois continues without a spending plan.

Rauner said House Speaker Michael Madigan isn’t planning to call lawmakers back to work until April 4 and said the “vacation” is “outrageous.”

The standoff over the budget has been going on since July 1 of 2015.

Madigan spokesperson Steve Brown responded by calling Rauner’s comments “baseless” and said the governor has been “snoozing” because the House schedule has been in place for months.

The Senate is in session for three days this week.
