Las Vegas, Nevada (Illinois Athletics) - Sophomore Dylan Meyer shot 2-under par in the second round of play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Tuesday, March 8, leading the Illini and holding a spot among the top-10 individuals. Meyer is 2-under par for the tournament as well, tied for seventh overall. As a team, the Illini (+8) currently sit in sixth place after a 4-over par second round tally.  Southern California used an 8-under par second round to pull into the tournament lead with a total score 4-under par.

"Today wasn't our best, the scoring conditions were better than what we shot," head coach Mike Small said. "It was a tough day from a scoring standpoint, but it is going to be interesting to see how we respond tomorrow. It is early in the season and we need to establish some resiliency; we will see if we can come back tomorrow and play well. Good teams expect themselves, and find themselves, to be near the top of the leaderboard in tournaments. Good players will always find themselves at the top. I'm excited to see if, tomorrow, we can finish on a good note after a few average days."

Tied for 10th individually after the first round, Meyer continued to lead the Illini and moved up three spots during his second round of play. The sophomore birdied three holes on the front nine, and was just 1-over par on the back nine holes on Tuesday.

"I thought Dylan {Meyer} played a solid round of golf today," Small said of the sophomore's 2-under par score. " The course was not easy and the pins were tough."
Senior Thomas Detry shot even par on Tuesday, after a 4-over par first round tally. Detry carded three birdies in the round for Illinois. Senior Charlie Danielson is also 4-over par through two rounds of play. Danielson shot even in round one, but followed up with a 4-over par score in the second round of the tournament.

Sophomore Nick Hardy sits just one stroke behind Danielson and Detry after two rounds of play. Hardy shot 2-over par in the second round for a total tally 5-over par. He is currently tied for 40th individually. Redshirt senior Alex Burge sits 7-over par after a 6-over par score in the second round.

Illinois will tee off at 10:50 a.m. CT in Wednesday's final round. Live scoring for the tournament can be found on Golfstat.
