DECATUR – Decatur firefighters were on the scene of a house fire just before noon on Wednesday, March 9, that has displaced one resident.

Units were dispatched to the fire at 11:51 AM on Wednesday and arrived at the fire on Circle Drive. Personnel say a single person home was engulfed in heavy smoke, and the fire appeared to be concentrated in the attic and crawl space. Crews put out the fire by 12:26 PM and searched for fire extension throughout the house.

The Decatur Fire Department reports the fire originated in a bedroom, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The occupant was not home at the time of the fire, and they have been relocated with family at this time. Fire officials estimate the damage to the home to be $40,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents. They have ruled it as “extensive.”

21 firefighters and three chiefs responded to the fire, and we will report any updates as soon as they are available.
