Owlie Skywarn Teaches Youth About Weather

Owlie Skywarn Teaches Youth About Weather

Posted: Updated:

With severe weather season right around the corner, it’s important for everyone to be prepared. That’s especially true for the youngsters. The National Weather Service continues to work towards creating new ways to reach our youth. That’s why they have created an online program using the mascot Owlie Skywarn to help teach kids about severe weather.

The goal of Owlie Skywarn is to ensure more families, schools, community groups and youth organizations become weather ready when severe weather strikes. There are numerous games, puzzles and science/weather facts for kids to click on. There’s even a section for teens, teachers and adults. Kids can follow along with Owlie’s weather journal and even follow him on Facebook and Twitter. Meteorologist Kevin Chierek says this is a fun and educational way for kids and families to get involved in weather.
