More Serious Charges after Deadly Crash in Pana

Posted: Updated:

Christian County - The charges have changed for the man police say caused a deadly crash last month in Pana.

37-year-old Matthew Swisher was originally charged for improper lane usage and driving under the influence. Swisher now faces new charges of aggravated driving under the influence involving a death.

The crash happened on February 7th  near the 2100 block of East 350 North Road, about two miles west of Pana, at about 8:48 p.m.  Illinois State Police say Swisher was driving a  2004 Chevrolet Impala  traveling westbound when he lost control of the vehicle, went into a plowed field, and rolled the vehicle several times.

Both Swisher and his passenger were thrown from the vehicle during the crash.  Swisher  was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  The passenger, identified as Kevin Thompson, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
