IL. EPA to Increase Water Tests at Mahomet Aquifer

Posted:

CLINTON, IL – The Illinois EPA is increasing tests of ground water at the Clinton Landfill in Dewitt County.

State Senator Chapin Rose says, it’s important to test the landfill because of its location on the top of the Mahomet Aquifer.

The aquifer provides drinking water to 500,000 people in Central Illinois. Testing will happen quarterly for the next three years.

“One of the things that bothered me and bothered my constituents is the nation that landfills are allowed to do tests and self-report their own ground water and wells. It realty raises this whole issue of it the fox guarding the hen house.”
