Millikin Freshman Chris Williams Takes 6th at NCAA DIII Wrestling Nationals


Millikin University freshman Chris Williams finished in sixth place at the 2016 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships held March 11-12 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Williams’ finish earns him All-American honors.

Williams opened Saturday’s action with an 11-4 win over Scott Giblin of Rhode Island College.  Williams jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and controlled much of the match.

In the Consolation Semifinals, Williams lost to the fifth seed Justin Kihn of Heidelberg 6-3. In the fifth place match, Williams lost to Gregory Warner of York
in a major decision 17-7.  The loss gave Williams the sixth place finish.

Williams went 2-1 in action on Friday to advance to Saturday’s All-American Round giving him a 3-3 record at the 2016 NCAA Tournament.  Williams ends the season with an overall record of 20-5.
