Illinois State Police respond to 2-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon
EFFINGHAM COUNTY - Illinois State Police say two people were taken to a local hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 near Montrose Sunday afternoon.
ISP officials say the crash happened on Interstate 70, near mile post 105, at about 4:25 p.m. According to the preliminary investigation into the crash, authorities say a 2016 Chevrolet Impala was traveling eastbound on I-70 when it slowed down due to traffic backup. A 2006 Suzuki Vitara SUV was also traveling eastbound on I-70, and subsequently rear-ended the Impala. Both vehicles came to rest in the median.
ISP officials also say an 18-year-old and a 12-year-old who were passengers in the Impala were taken to a local hospital via ambulance following the crash. The driver of the SUV was cited for failure to reduce speed.
