Oversized Abstract Wooden Works Featured at First Friday Gallery Walk in Decatur

Decatur- The Decatur Area Arts Council presents “CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE” from April 1-28 in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center.

Carbondale artist William H. Thielen will be featured.  He uses the language of abstraction in his oversized works constructed of wooden shapes.  Thielen tells the gallery “the process of abstraction is one of spontaneity, flexibility, and trusting the intuitive nature of the act.”

On Friday, April 1 from 5-7:30 pm, the public is invited to attend the opening of the exhibit.  This free event is part of the First Friday Gallery Walk in downtown Decatur.  Families – ages 5 and up - are welcome.

Thielen earned his M.F.A. in fibers after concentrating on painting for his undergraduate degree.  Sometimes he uses black and white motifs, other times, bright color.

During the gallery walk, there’s also abstract art with geometrics – an art-making activity for all ages in the studio.
