1 dead, 1 injured in 3-vehicle crash in Vermilion County
VERMILION COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one person is dead and another is injured after a three-vehicle crash in Vermilion County Tuesday afternoon.
ISP officials say the crash happened on Illinois Route 1, about two-tenths of a mile from South Ross Lane in Vermilion County, at about 1:37 p.m. According to the preliminary investigation into the crash, authorities say a Chevrolet Cavalier was heading southbound in the right lane when it changed lanes, striking the right corner of a GMC pickup truck.
ISP Troopers say the Cavalier lost control, slid across the center turn lane and into the left northbound lane, where it struck the front of a Mack garbage truck. Both the Cavalier and garbage truck came to rest in the northbound left lane and center turn lane.
Officials say the driver of the Mack garbage truck was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Cavalier, identified by the Vermilion County Coroner as 27-year-old Jeremy Baston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
