Hours-long standoff ends

Posted:

Authorities arrested one man Wednesday night after an hours-long standoff with sheriff’s deputies.

The standoff began around 2:45 p.m., when authorities were called to a mobile home in Clear Lake Township in Sangamon County on reports of a man threatening others.

“The sheriff’s office received a call that an individual, when they opened a door, had … a handgun,” explained Sheriff Wes Barr. “They made some kind of statements that they wanted to hurt somebody or may hurt somebody, so the family member left, called the sheriff’s office.”

Barr said law enforcement had information the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

After the man stopped speaking with negotiators, officers forced their way into the home and took the man into custody shortly after 8 p.m.
