Two Illini Advance to NCAA Wrestling Semifinals

CHAMPAIGN - Two Illinois wrestlers are now just one step away from competing for national wrestling championships.

No surprise in the 157 lb. class, as 1-seed Isaiah Martinez earned a 6-3 decision over Virginia Tech's Nick Brascetta. Martinez advances to his 2nd straight national semifinal.

In the 133 lb. class, 3rd-seeded Zane Richards also moved on, in a 12-4 major decision over Virginia's George DiCamillo. Richards will face 2nd-seeded Cory Clark out of Iowa in the semifinals.

Two other Illini qualified for quarterfinal matches, but Steven Rodrigues (165 lb.) and Brooks Black (285 lb.) lost, sliding into their consolation brackets.

Those take place Friday night, with championship matches set for Saturday.  Find more information on the NCAA Wrestling Championships here.
