EFFINGHAM – The Effingham County EMA is hosting a storm spotter class at their office at 311 Miracle Way in Effingham this evening. The class will start at 6:30 PM and last about 2 to 2.5 hours. A meteorologist from the National Weather Service office in Lincoln will be conducting the training. Storm spotters are a vital part of the warning process during severe weather and are often the first ones to report conditions and damage to the National Weather Service. The spotter training class is designed for people new to severe storm spotting as well as those that need a refresher. In order to be an official storm spotter you MUST attend one of the classes. The training is comprised of all the information that spotters need to be effective and safe.
The National Weather Service will be traveling to numerous locations around central Illinois to make it easy to attend a class. If you’re interested, check out their website for more information and to find a class closest to you.
