Central Illinois seniors invited to participate in spelling bee

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - An Illinois State Representative is hosting a spelling bee for seniors, as part of a statewide competition, on March 22.

The bee, hosted by Representative Sue Scherer (D-Decatur), is a part of the Association of Illinois Senior Centers and the Illinois Department on Aging's Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee competition.  Scherer says this spelling bee is "a great way for older adults to celebrate many years of learning, as well as stay mentally active."

This event is free and open to members of the public, ages 50 and older.  WAND's Sean Streaty will also be in attendance as the presenter for this event.  The competition will be held at 500 West McKinley Avenue in Decatur at 2:00 p.m.

To register for the spelling bee, call (217) 877-9636.
