Civil Lawsuit Against Duckworth Will Not Proceed

Posted:

JONESBORO----A civil lawsuit against U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth will not go forward in April, according to court officials in southern Illinois.

The lawsuit stems from the time Duckworth led Illinois' veterans agency. Officials with the Union County Clerk's office say a May 12 hearing for summary judgment in the case has been set, following a hearing Tuesday. The case was to go to trial April 4.

The lawsuit was filed by two employees of a nursing home in southern Illinois in 2008. The employees alleged workplace retaliation. The Illinois Attorney General's office is handling Duckworth's defense. It had already asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

Duckworth won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate last week during Illinois' primary. She will face Republican incumbent U.S. Senator Mark Kirk in the November general election.
