94 year old wins Senior Spelling Bee in Macon County

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - The Senior Spelling Bee winner in Macon County is 94 year old Betty Perry.

State Representative Sue Scherer held the Spelling Bee for Seniors at Mckinley Court Care Center in Decatur.

Betty Perry beat out 14 other competitors by correctly spelling the word "GENTEEL". She happens to be the mother of Representative Scherer. Perry successfully spelled her way in to the final round. She will now compete in the Senior Regional Spelling Bee in June at a time and location to be determined.

The June winner advances to the state finals in August at the Illinois State Fair. The Illinois Department on Aging sponsors the Senior Spelling Bee.
