Man Receives 20 year Sentence for Leaving Infant Daughter To Die in Bean Field

Posted: Updated:

CHAMPAIGN – 20 years in prison, and no contact with his children. Thomas Boitnott of St. Joseph, was handed that sentence on March 22. The 24 year old father was found guilty of attempted murder and child abduction, but mentally ill in January.

Boitnott left his infant daughter face down in the middle of a bean field to die last summer, after an argument with the child’s mother.

Judge Tom Difanis says it was an extension of a domestic dispute, based on what was presented and the deterrent factor has to come across to anyone who abuses children.

Although Boitnott’s Lawyer pushed for a lighter sentence, the Judge disagreed. He ruled it was “incredibly important” that he not have contact with the children for the foreseeable future.
