Effingham Co. Cultural Center and LLC partner for Lincoln Celebration

EFFINGHAM – The Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association (ECCCMA) and Lake Land College are partnering once again for the 2nd Annual Celebration of Lincoln and His Times.

This year, the program’s topic is “The Election of 1860.”

According to event officials, last year’s event was a huge success, with standing room only in the 1st floor court room of the Effingham County Courthouse Museum. Last year’s program focused on the 150th anniversary of the death of Lincoln, with several local residents giving short presentations on various topics.

This year’s format will be the same, but it will have much more available seating on the 2nd floor court room.

Attendees will have the chance to look at various displays, as well as enjoy performances by musicians from the Illinois Old Time Fiddlers Association.

ECCCMA President Delaine Donaldson says the partnership between her organization and LLC works well as they are able to link resources and passion for history to offer the event.

Lake Land College history instructor and event presenter, Matt Greider says the event is great because it involves a topic that is always intriguing to the public.

“The history of Abraham Lincoln is a topic that the public never tires of learning about. Lincoln was a resident of Illinois, so many people in this area have a connection to him or his past,” Greider says.

This year’s event takes place at the Effingham County Courthouse on Thursday, April 14 at 7 PM. Doors will open at 6 PM, with a musical performance at 6:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
