Red Cross volunteers respond to Wednesday house fire

DECATUR - The American Red Cross says local volunteers responded to a house fire that happened on Decatur's east side on March 23.

Red Cross officials say the fire happened in the 800 block of East Prairie Street in Decatur.  Volunteers responded to the scene, and are providing a safe place to stay, food, clothing, and emotional support for one adult affected by this fire.

The volunteers who responded to this incident were members of a local Disaster Action Team, which is trained to help citizens affected by disasters at any time.   The American Red Cross says families are encouraged to put into place and practice an escape plan in case of fire, and to test their smoke alarms every month.
