UPDATE: Fire Leaves One Dead and Another Critically Injured

UPDATE – The Champaign County Coroner has identified a Champaign man who died in a house fire early Saturday morning.

Coroner Duane E. Northrup reports 23-year-old Christian Sheehan was pronounced dead at Presence Covenant Medical Center at 5:12 AM on March 26. Sheehan had been found unresponsive inside of a burning home on Cypress Drive at around 4:16 AM.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Monday, March 28, and an inquest may be held at a later date.

Sheehan’s death is being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

CHAMPAIGN – An early morning fire in Champaign leaves one person dead and another in critical condition. 

It happened early Saturday morning at 1802 Cypress Drive in Champaign.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found the two victims from the fire and performed CPR. Both were taken to a local hospital. One person was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other victim remains in critical condition. 

No word yet on the cause of the fire.
