Sewer Lining: Residents Asked to Have Water in Their Drains

Posted: Updated:

Springfield - The City of Springfield will be lining the sewers in part of the city on Monday, March 28th through Friday, March 31st.

The sewer lining will occur on Monroe Street between 5th and 7th Streets.  The project is anticipated to last the week, weather permitting.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding areas are encouraged to ensure that all of their plumbing fixture traps have water in them by running or pouring water down their drains to prevent sewer gas and odors associated with the lining process from entering their homes or businesses.

In order to complete the lining project, Monroe Street between 5rd and 7th Streets will be reduced to one lane of travel. Parking will be prohibited on the north side of Monroe Street due to the lane closures. The center and right lane of 6th Street will be closed between Capitol Avenue and Monroe Street due to the location of a manhole. The right lane of 7th Street will be closed between Adams and Monroe Streets.

Motorists are asked to use alternate routes to avoid this area during peak times of the day.  Motorists and pedestrians are asked to use caution in the area of the lane closures and to watch for trucks entering and leaving the roadway.
