BONDVILLE – Fire crews were on the scene of a house fire that required the attention of several departments and left a family of six displaced on Easter Sunday.

Crews from Mahomet Fire Department and other surrounding departments responded to the fire in the 5700 block of Old Church Road in Bondville on Sunday evening. Mahomet Fire Department had to send an engine, along with two additional water trucks.

Neighbors told fire officials the family who lived in the home had left an hour before the fire started.

According to the America Red Cross, they are currently assisting two adults and four children as a result of this fire. Volunteers are providing them a safe place to stay, food, clothing and other emotional support.

American Red Cross officials remind families to have a fire preparedness plan in place for these occasions, as they respond to an average of nearly 66,000 disasters each year, and a majority are home fires.
