Progress City to host Four Dog Shows this Spring

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR – Progress City, near Richland Community College, will be the site of four all-breed dog shows April 28 through May 1.

Hundreds of dogs from all over the country will be on site participating in these American Kennel Club (AKC) events. These shows are known as the Progress City Cluster, with three area kennel clubs hosting the events. Those clubs include Sandemac Kennel Club (Decatur’s home club), Mattoon Kennel Club and the Champaign Illinois Kennel Club.

The public is invited to attend these shows, with the admission cost coming to $5 per carload.

Judging begins at 9 AM every day, except Sunday which begins at 8:30 AM. The shows continue through the middle of the afternoon when one dog will be named Best In Show each day.

Those interested in seeing a daily judging schedule can find it here.

Event officials say AKC policy does not allow un-entered dogs to attend these shows. Spectators should also ask before petting any of the dog entries.

Food vendors and dog supply vendors will be on-site.

The Cluster utilizes several buildings. Directions to specific buildings and more information can be obtained at the entrance gate to Progress City.

Those interested in trying out the world of dog shows have the opportunity to do so through the Champaign Illinois Kennel Club’s sponsored AKC Sanctioned Puppy Match on Saturday, April 30. That will take place shortly after Best In Show. Entry information is available on CIKC’s website.
