DECATUR - The Decatur Police Department is investigating a train versus car crash that left one woman injured Tuesday morning.

Decatur Police Sgt. Chris Peters tells WAND the crash happened at about 7:45 a.m. in the area of Greenhill Road and Route 36.  According to Peters, the driver of the car, identified as a 40-year-old local woman, was stopped for traffic on the railroad tracks at the time of the incident.

Sgt. Peters says the train initiated its emergency brakes, and sounded its horn, but was unable to stop in time to avoid the crash.  The driver's side of the vehicle was struck, and the driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Sgt. Peters also says the woman was allegedly on her cell phone at the time of the incident.  The Decatur Police Department is reminding motorists to not use their cell phones while driving.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.  We will provide more details as they become available.
