Alzheimer's Association releases 2016 Alzheimer's Facts and Figures report

CHICAGO - Alzheimer's Association officials say the number of Illinois residents who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease has increased by about 4.7 percent from 2014 to 2015.

According to The Alzheimer's Association's 2016 Alzheimer's Disease Facts and Figures report, the number of Americans battling the disease is estimated to be 5.4 million, with 220,000 of those being reported in Illinois.  That number is up 10,000 from 2014's reported number of 210,000.

Additionally, the report also includes the results of a survey on how family members and friends caring for those with Alzheimer's, classified in the survey as "care contributors," are impacted financially.  The full results of the report may be read here.
