I-TEAM: Mitchell Calls For Uninsured State Vehicles To Be Parked

Decatur – State Representative Bill Mitchell, (R) Forsyth, is calling on the state to park vehicles until an appropriation is passed to pay for insurance claims.

Drivers involved in accidents in which the driver of a state-owned vehicle was at fault are not getting their insurance claims paid because the state has not appropriated money to do so.

“It is unacceptable that Illinoisians and visitors to our state, through no fault of their own, find themselves stuck with the cost of vehicle repairs or replacement just because we can’t pass a budget to fund the insurance on state vehicles,” Mitchell stated.  The issue was brought to his attention on Wednesday morning while appearing on a local talk radio show.

Mitchell says state-owned vehicles should remain parked until an appropriation is passed fund their insurance.

Mitchell is calling for immediate action when the legislature returns to Springfield next week.
