Champaign Police investigate Second Shooting near Mattis North Apts.

CHAMPAIGN – The Champaign Police Department reports officers responded to a report of residents hearing multiple shots fired in the area of the Mattis North Apartments on Wednesday evening.

Authorities arrived on scene in the 2000 block of North Mattis Avenue at 5:01 PM on Wednesday, March 30, to find a 31-year-old male subject that had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. That victim was transported to Carle Hospital in serious condition.

Champaign Police are still gathering information concerning this incident. Detectives are working to obtain descriptions of individuals believed to be involved in this shooting and are currently interviewing several witnesses and persons of interest.

Evidence taken from the scene suggests that more than one individual was actively shooting during this incident.

This is the second shooting to take place in this area in the past couple of days. Police were investigating on Saturday, March 26, after a man was shot in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive, near the same apartments. It has not been suggested that these two events are related.
