Authorities Find Hoax Explosives At Peoria Airport

Posted:

PEORIA----Investigators at Peoria International Airport say a suspicious package that forced a three-hour evacuation Thursday morning turned out to be fake explosive material.

Peoria International Airport Director Gene Olson says the airport was evacuated just after 6:30 a.m. Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy are questioning the woman who had the baggage, and said she uses the hoax materials to advise abortion service providers about security measures.

McCoy said the material found had the word "dynamite" printed on it; had a Mason jar with liquid in it; and several strings that TSA investigators thought looked like a detonator.

The area was evacuated, and no flights were allowed to go out of the airport for the next three hours.
