Springfield Police Warn of Solicitors

Posted: Updated:

Springfield - The Springfield Police Department is warning residents about people soliciting for donations under false pretenses.

Police say on March 22nd, two black females were reported going to homes in the southeast part of the city asking for donations for a program called "Cops and Kids." The females told the residents that they were asked to solicit by the police department which is not true.

Springfield Deputy Chief Dan Mounce warns  "not all door-to-door solicitations are for done for criminal intent, as many school and sports team fundraisers are conducted in this manner, citizens should be very wary of such activity.  The Springfield Police Department is not involved in any door-to-door fundraising and there have not been any solicitation permits issued by the City of Springfield for this purpose."

If you are contacted by these individuals, you are asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 788-8311.
