Springfield Fire Department, volunteers to offer free home safety checks

Posted:

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Fire Department is teaming up with the American Red Cross to perform home safety checks for hundreds of families on April 2.

Officials say volunteers will visit homes from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. to ensure that smoke alarms are in working order.  The volunteers will also be installing free smoke alarms as needed.

Individuals who are interested in volunteering can still sign up by visiting this website.  Volunteers will need to meet at 9:00 a.m. at Studio 257 for a training session before being assigned to teams.

These home visits are made possible through a partnership with the Springfield Fire Department, the City of Springfield, and the Central and Southern Illinois American Red Cross.
