Police arrest person of interest in January 2016 Rochester shooting death

SPRINGFIELD - In an update to a story WAND has been following since January, the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office says a suspect in the shooting death of a Rochester man has been caught in Arkansas.

Deputies say they were contacted by the United States Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force at about 9:00 a.m. on March 30.  Authorities say Marcus Russel, 29, was in custody in Pulaski County, Arkansas.  Russel was wanted on a Sangamon County warrant for first degree murder and attempted armed robbery.

U.S. Marshals say Russel was one of four people arrested after running during a traffic stop in relation to alleged credit card forgery in Arkansas.  Russel is currently being held on a $2,000,000 bond, and is awaiting extradition back to Sangamon County.

Russel was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Matthew Grady, 31, on January 25, 2016.  Grady's death is still under investigation.
