Fire Safety Focus in Springfield

Posted:

SPRINGFIELD -  Nearly 700 single family homes on Springfield's Central East side will be the focus of the smoke alarm installations Saturday. The Springfield Fire Department and American Red Cross will conduct the home safety visits from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the installations conducted by volunteers who visit homes in teams of three. People from the community can volunteer and will go through a 30-45 minute training before being assigned to teams. Each group will be assigned 25-30 homes to visit. The home safety visits are a partnership between the Springfield Fire Department, the Central and Southern Illinois American Red Cross and the City of Springfield. To date, 700 smoke alarms have been installed in Springfield homes since the partnership began in 2015.
