Quilt Fest shows 'labor of love'

The Decatur Quilters Guild is hosting its annual Quilt Fest Friday and Saturday.

The event, which is held at the Decatur Civic Center, includes vendors, classes, technique demonstrations and a show of quilts.

“This is our time to promote the art of quilting, show off the work we’ve done, and honor the quilters that have made the quilts,” said quilter Mary Balagna.

Many of those who showed quilts Friday said the craft allows them to show love and care for those who receive their quilts.

“These are for Project Linus,” said quilter Linda Kirby of a series of quilts featuring race cars and races. “We make them for children who have trauma or are very sick and that need a loving and need to know someone cares about them.”

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
