Assistant State’s Attorney Stephanie Hall told the News-Gazette that the 16-year-old girl implicated in the stabbing was the victim in the Ford County case of Vasquez. The girl was the daughter of Vasquez's victim. She has been arrested for allegedly taking part in the stabbing.

Vasquez is currently being held in lieu of a $1 million bond. He and the teen are expected to be formally charged on Monday, April 4.

RANTOUL – The Rantoul Police Department has made an arrest after a 49-year-old woman was found beaten and stabbed on Friday, April 1.

WAND News previously reported a woman had been found with a stab wound in her necks, as well as cuts on her hand, in the 700 block of Willow Pond Road in Rantoul Friday night at around 9:51 PM. Her injuries were later found to be non-life threatening, and she was released from the hospital.

Authorities announced Saturday night that they had made an arrest through investigation into the whereabouts of the male subject the woman said stabbed her.

The victim had previously told authorities that she knew the man who attacked her and that he had left her residence prior to officers arriving on scene.

At 3:54 AM on Saturday, officers were conducting a court authorized search of the victim’s residence. While they searched, they discovered a man who had attempted to hide inside the home. He was later identified as 23-year-old Luis David Vasquez.

Vasquez was arrested without incident and brought to the Rantoul Police Department. He confessed in an interview with Rantoul authorities to being the person who stabbed and battered the woman.

Authorities later transported to the Champaign County Correctional Center on charges of Attempted Homicide and Criminal Sexual Assault.

According to law enforcement, the Criminal Sexual Assault charge is in relation to a sexual relationship between Vasquez and a juvenile that was discovered during the investigation. That juvenile, a 16-year-old family member of the victim, was also implicated in the incident. They were later arrested and taken to the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of Attempted Homicide.

This case remains under investigation by the Rantoul Police Department, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
