EFFINGHAM COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash on I-57 Sunday afternoon.

Officials say the crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-57 at about 3:56 p.m.  According to the preliminary investigation into the crash, a 2008 Ford Pickup Truck was traveling south on I-57 when it slowed down to change lanes as a response to an ISP squad car and tow truck on the shoulder with their emergency lights activated.

Troopers say the driver of the pickup truck slowed down abruptly, near the point where the emergency vehicles were located, and that a 2007 Freightliner Truck Tractor that was traveling behind the pickup was unable to avoid a collision.  As a result, the truck tractor struck the rear of the pickup truck as it attempted to brake.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.  Officials also say the pickup truck's driver was cited for standing, stopping, parking on roadway and violation of minimum speed restriction.
