Council votes to take Ownership of Library; Man collapses at meeting

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR – The Decatur City Council votes 5-2 to take ownership of the Decatur Public Library.

The council approved a 20 year lease agreement with the Library Board of Trustees that calls for the city to repair the parking lot of the library and HVAC System. The Library will pay rent to the city in the amount of 575-thousand dollars per year. The city will be responsible for maintenance and utilities.

Council Members Chris Funk and Bill Faber voted against the lease agreement saying it burdens the city with too many financial costs over the long term including Bond payments. The new lease agreement takes effect May 1.

During public appearance by citizens one man fell backward and collapsed. He was taken to the hospital for treatment but was responsive before being taken out on a stretcher.
