American Heart Association offering free CPR kits to Macon Co. Businesses

Posted: Updated:

MACON COUNTY – The American Heart Association and members of its volunteer Macon County Mission Advancement Committee will be handing out CPR kits at the 2016 Chamber Business Expo on May 5.

Statistics show more than 320,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year, and fewer than 10 percent of victims survive. Performing CPR can triple a victim’s chances of survival.

Association officials say CPR Anytime Kits are an efficient and easy way to train employees on CPR techniques and are a vital part of any workplace wellness program. These kits are being offered free-of-charge to Macon County businesses attending the business expo.

Each kit will include:

  • An easy to follow CPR skills practice DVD
  • A personal CPR manikin to practice correct technique
  • Skills reference card to refresh and review skills at any time

According to the American Heart Association, CPR Anytime is a great way for businesses to show their commitment to health and safety in and outside the office and that these skills can be used anywhere.

In order to receive a kit, businesses just have to stop by the American Heart Association booth at the expo and register their company. Businesses that cannot attend can request a kit by calling Karen Gedrose at 217-698-3838 or by emailing Karen.gedrose@heart.org.

The kits will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis at the 2016 Chamber Business Expo, located at the Decatur Civic Center. Limited quantities will be available from 9 AM to 2 PM on May 5.

More information on CPR and cardiac arrest is available on the American Heart Association website.
