SPRINGFIELD – City of Springfield officials announce the City is actively recruiting Police Patrol Officers and Police Patrol Officer Laterals.

Interested candidates are advised to first apply online through the City’s website by clicking “Search for Jobs” and then applying for either job opening. Those who are unable to access a computer at home can use the public computers at the City of Springfield’s Office of Human Resources, located at 300 South 7th Street, Room 309.

Applicants should also plan to attend one of three orientations offered by the Springfield Police Department:

  • Saturday, April 9 at 8:30 AM – International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 965 – 3520 East Cook Street
  • Thursday, April 14 at 8:30 AM and 12:30 PM
  • Wednesday, May 11 at 5 PM – City of Springfield Council Chambers – 300 South 7th Street, 3rd Floor

In order to sign up for these orientations, applicants should email or call 217-789-2446 with their name and the date and time of the session the individual plans to attend.

The final step for applying is taking the required tests. The Mandatory Physical Ability Exam is scheduled for Friday, June 3 and the Mandatory Written Exam is scheduled for Saturday, June 4. An oral assessment will also take place in July. This testing date has yet to be determined.

A practice physical ability power test is set for Saturday, May 7. This test allows applicants to assess their skills before the test in June. It is an optional test, but those interested in partaking must notify the City’s Human Resources Department by email or phone of their participation.

The deadline to apply for these positions is Sunday, May 22 at 11 PM.

The complete Patrol Officer and Patrol Officer Lateral information packet is available on the City’s website. There is no cost to apply and test for Policy Entry or Lateral positions.
