10th Warmest March on Record

Champaign - March in Illinois was one for the record books. 

According to the Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel, it was the 10th warmest March on record in Illinois with an average temperature of 46 degrees which is 5 degrees above normal. 

Angel says this warmth for the past several months is due to the moderating influence of El Niño on winters in Illinois, as well as our trend towards milder winters in recent decades. .

While the temperature was higher than normal, the rainfall was just .32 inches above normal in the state. In March, the average rainfall was 3.28 inches.
