SPRINGFIELD - State Representatives, as well as state and community agency members, are gathering in Springfield Thursday morning to raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month during April.

The event began at the Illinois State Capitol at 10:00 a.m.  Among those in attendance at Representatives Jehan Gordon-Booth and Sara Wojcicki Jimenez, Illinois DCFS Director George Sheldon, and Prevent Child Abuse Illinois Executive Director Roy Harley.

Since its inception in 1983, National Child Abuse Prevention Month has increased awareness about child abuse and neglect.  Officials say they will discuss current trends that are impacting families and children in Illinois, and how prevention and education programs are vital to families.
